Are you a military family that is transitioning to a new location this summer?  If you’ve moved with a student before, then you know successful transfers from one school to another require planning so that important documents aren’t left behind.   Tracking down information from your old home after having already arrived at your new one often takes more time in the long run, can be stressful if offices have closed for the summer . . . and will certainly detract from getting those boxes unpacked!

Having one or more students in a Special Education or a Gifted & Talented program likely means extra steps must be taken to cross the t’s and dot the i’s of getting all necessary documentation to their new school so they don’t suffer a disruption of services. is here to help with our online Library.  Membership in this library is FREE and our resources are tailored to meet the needs of military families.

The Special School Topics section of our Library has areas for Gifted & Talented and Special Needs, as well as Bi-Lingual Education.  Transition Checklists can be found under the Gifted & Talented and the Special Needs headings.  *Remember that in some states students in Gifted & Talented programs fall under their school’s Special Education umbrella.

Take a moment to look at or even print out these lists.  Planning ahead is a sure way to make your transition a smoother one!
