What enables you to bravely face a challenge in your life?  What makes you dig in and work instead of throwing your hands in the air and giving up?  Your success in any given situation depends on your grit, your determination, your “SPARC”.

Military kids face unique challenges.  With the support and guidance from a champion in their life they can learn to be resilient and subsequently, thrive.  One of the goals of the Military Child Education Coalition® (MCEC®) is to assist military children as they grow and flourish to discover their own personal “SPARC”.

SPARC training is one of the MCEC’s newest courses.  The acronym SPARC denotes five key components of thriving children:

  1. Strength
  2. Potential
  3. Aspirations
  4. Resourcefulness
  5. Confidence

Helping kids realize those areas that strengthen and energize them creates the foundation they need to succeed.  Rarely, however, will kids identify those areas on their own. They need a champion to help them discover their own distinct SPARC.  And maybe that champion is YOU!

Being a champion sounds like a tall order, doesn’t it?  Of course we all want to guide children to success, but being a champion?  How does one do that?  It’s really not as hard as it sounds.  If you care, listen, and encourage you can be a champion in someone’s life.  The MCEC’s SPARC Training will demonstrate how you can be a key component in a child’s life.

For the very first time, the SPARC Training is being offered online.  This allows you to train at your own pace during a two-week window.  Eligibility to earn .6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are available for participants who complete the six clock hour course.

Course topics include:

  • What It Means to Thrive
  • Equipping Youth with Sparks
  • Military Children and Academics, Relocation, Social Issues, Family Dynamics
  • Mindset: Fixed vs. Growth

In honor of the Month of the Military Child, this course will be offered three times throughout April.  You simply pick which two-week window fits into your schedule and sign up!  You can complete the course in the convenience of your home and at your own pace.  Scheduled course dates are:

Thursday, 04/09/15 – Wednesday, 04/22/15

Thursday, 04/16/15 – Wednesday, 04/29/15

Thursday, 04/23/15 – Wednesday, 05/06/15
