Do you know what that refers to?  If you answered, “Veteran’s Day," you are correct. It’s a day to remember and appreciate all that veterans have sacrificed to make our nation great.  And make no mistake, the sacrifice is real and it is immense.

Veterans Day was created at the end of the First World War, or as it was known at the time, “The Great War.”  Although the war was officially over with the Signing of the Treaty of Versailles in June of 1919, the fighting ceased the previous November.  At 11 am on November 11,1918,  the Allied and German forces declared an armistice.  The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month.

Still today we celebrate Veterans Day on November 11th.

We are able to live in peace and safety, secure in our sense of freedom, because of the sacrifice of our military members.  Their sense of duty, honor, and patriotism makes my heart swell.

That love of country extends to the military families.  In these families, the playing of the National Anthem requires standing with hand over heart.  It means saying “Thank you” when meeting someone who has served.  It means being a part of something bigger than yourself.

So on this Veterans Day, I say “Thank You” to all our men and women in uniform, our nation is great because of you.  To the military families, I say “Thank You”.  Our military is strong and focused because of your love and support.  Military members and their families are our nation's treasure and my personal heroes.

The Military Child Education Coalition is proud to serve our military families.  We exist to support and advocate for you – every branch of the military; Active Duty, National Guard, Reserves, or Retired – we are here for you.

The MCEC’s SchoolQuest offers all its resources FREE of charge to all military-connected students and family members.  No matter what time of day or day of the week, if you can connect online you can find us.
