How did it begin?

Blue Star Theatres began as a partnership between the Theatre Communications Group (TCG -the national organization for theatre) with leadership support provided by the MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families as a way to say thank you to our nation’s service men and women.

Recognizing the power live theatre has to deepen community connections and to inspire creative expression, Blue Star Theatres can be a tool for integrating military families into their local communities and for helping all of us to better understand the consequences of the years we’ve been at war.

When the program launched in September 2012 there were 22 participating theatres.  That number has already grown to 77 participating theatres, and more are joining every day!

What does it do?

Each participating theatre offers discounted or complimentary admission to all military personnel and their families as well as veterans.

In addition, unique opportunities will be offered such as playwriting classes, community discussions on plays whose themes resonate with military families, job postings and casting notices on military installations, and more!

Blue Star Theatres helps families share time together, and provides educational and cultural opportunities for these families and their communities.

How can I find a participating theatre?

Search by state to find participating theatres close to your location.
