About SchoolQuest
Designed for military students, their families and the caring professionals who support them, SchoolQuest is an educational resource tool from the Military Child Education Coalition. Although our primary audience includes military students and their parents, SchoolQuest is well-suited to anyone who is “questing” information about schools, college and workplace readiness, transition, etc. It is meant to facilitate the search for new schools and centralize resources.
But, it’s more than just a search site. It’s also a secure storage site for students’ educational, extra-curricular, award, volunteer and work information. Please note, though, that is NOT a replacement for a school transcript. It can be viewed as a safe, centralized virtual “file drawer” where a student (or parent) can keep track of all the details that are so difficult to organize…but so necessary when students move or apply for college, jobs or military service.
In addition, SchoolQuest guests are granted access to research and time-tested information about successful educational transitions from the Military Child Education Coalition.
Creating a SchoolQuest Profile
"My SchoolQuest Profile" is a secure area where you can store and easily retrieve a student´s educational and extra-curricular history. It is a convenient place to keep track of the many details of every student´s life: school names and addresses, courses completed, sports, clubs, standardized test, volunteer work, and work experience. Fill it in all at once, or come back to it on a regular basis to update information as your student progresses.
You´ll find it especially helpful for those students who move frequently. It can be a one–stop personal reference area, particularly useful when it´s time to write resumes and fill out college/military applications. One caution: it is not a replacement for a school transcript – receiving schools and colleges will definitely need school transcripts –– but it is a convenient place to list the courses (and grades, if you wish) that have been completed, as a personal and easily accessible checklist.
It also includes an area for Future Plans, along with MCEC’s guidance about educational preparation and a wealth of resources.
Who should use it?
- Parents – to keep track of one or more of your children´s histories
- Individual Students – to keep control of your own history
- Professional Educators – to provide support for students, especially those who move frequently.
How do I know that it´s safe?
Each family´s or student´s information is secured with a personal password. No one can access your information without that password. And, you are free to enter as much or as little information as you wish. Wherever you may be in the world, if you have internet access you have access to SchoolQuest!
